I’m James! I wear many hats — nutrition communicator, business leader, Registered Nutritionist, gym lover and, most recently, author of my first book, Well Fed: How modern diets are failing us (and what we can do about it).

I’m Co-Founder of Huel, which has sold 400+ million meals across more than 80 countries. As Chief Sustainable Nutrition Officer, I oversee the development of new products, nutrition communications and matters related to ESG and sustainability.
As a Registered Nutritionist, I’m motivated to share my 30+ years of nutrition knowledge with the world. My first book, Well Fed, explores contemplative nutrition: a dietary philosophy that encourages you to pause and reflect – just a little – on what you eat.
I value reason, evidence-based decision-making and healthy debate – I love it when science shows me when I’m wrong!
After graduating from the University of Surrey in 1995 with an honours degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, I spent the next seven years as an NHS dietitian gaining experience in a range of clinical areas such as intensive care nutrition, weight control, diabetes, food intolerance and enteral tube feeding.
For more than 18 years, I worked in the fitness industry advising professional-level athletes – including bodybuilders, strongmen, cricketers, boxers and MMA fighters, as well as regular gym-goers, on their nutritional needs helping them to reach their potential.
I’ve written for publications on food policy, the neuroscience and physiology of eating, clinical dietetics, sports, fitness and muscle-building, and lifestyle nutrition.
I’ve given seminars across the world on both nutrition and leadership and have been featured on radio, television and numerous podcasts.
With experience in clinical dietetics, strength and fitness, the food industry and as a food and nutrition communicator, I’ve been referred to as a ‘citizen academic’. My broad knowledge and ability to summarise scientific research and others’ ideas in an easy-to-understand format, means I can discuss a range of topics.
